Two airports provide service to Hilton Head Island: Hilton Head Airport located approximately 5 miles (8km) from all island resorts, and Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport located approximately 45 miles (72 km) to the south of the island off Interstate I-95.
Driving Directions to Hilton Head Island
From interstate I-95 take exit # 8 (eight miles from the Georgia / South Carolina border) and travel east following the signs to Hilton Head Island. This is U. S. Highway # 278 and you will travel approximately 18 miles to the bridge over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway that crosses from the mainland to Hilton Head Island. Continue on U.S. Highway # 278 (known on the island as William Hilton Parkway) and look for signs for the Cross Island Expressway. If your destination is the south end of the island (Shipyard Plantation, Sea Pines Plantation, Coligny Beach, Forest Beach) stay to your left and use the Cross Island Expressway (Toll: $1.25) to save time. Otherwise, keep right and continue on U.S. Highway # 278 for all destinations.
Flying into the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport
If flying to the island via the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, take interstate I-95 North from the airport and follow the directions above.
